Frequently Asked Questions
Helping you unlock your iPhone!
1.How can I tell if I have the new bootloader?
Phones that have serial numbers with week number 45 or later (week number is 4th & 5th number in serial number) are known to have the new bootloader. Also, if your phone has firmware 1.1.2 out-of-box, it will likely have the new bootloader as well.
2.I have a 1.0.2/1.1.1 iPhone, how do I unlock?
Just follow our easy-to-use online instructions by clicking here. If you haven't already, please upgrade to the 1.1.1 firmware.
3.I have a 1.1.2 iPhone, how do I unlock?
Currently there is no unlock available for out-of-the-box 1.1.2 iPhones (ones that, upon startup, show multilingual emergency dialing prompts). However, if your iPhone was previously 1.1.1 or earlier (and you accidentally upgraded), there is a way to downgrade, unlock, then upgrade back to 1.1.2. The tutorial is available by clicking here.
4.May I upgrade to firmware 1.1.1/1.1.2 now that I've unlocked my phone?
Yes! Just follow our instructions by clicking here. Follow the instructions under the section titled "Upgrading to 1.1.2" - you'll be running 1.1.2 on your phone in no time!
5.I've already activated with AT&T - what do I do differently?
The only difference with AT&T-activated phones is that you may directly browse to http://jailbreakme.com from Safari. Once you've done this, the remaining steps stay the same.
6.I didn't receieve confirmation/where is my order?
All of our licenses are instantly activated. You should have received a confirmation within minutes of your PayPal payment's completion. If you didn't, your license is still activated, so you may unlock.
7.I received an "Unlock is currently unauthorized..." error.
Please make sure you are connected to a strong, reliable WiFi connection with Internet access. If the problem still persists, send us a support request by clicking here, along with your IMEI number, and we'll check the status for you.
8.I received a "Cannot download firmware..." error.
Please make sure you're using the latest version of the SimFree unlocking app (which is available via AppTapp). If the problem still persists, restore your iPhone via iTunes, and the error should disappear.
9.Is it free to upgrade my firmware to a version newer than what I unlocked?
Yes! And best of all, your unlock carries over during firmware upgrades: so there's no need to unlock your phone again after you've upgraded!
10.YouTube doesn't work! What should I do?
Visit http://jailbreakme.com in your Safari browser (on the iPhone) and run the AppSnapp installation process again. They have updated it now to include YouTube activation.
11.I tried the above recommendations, and YouTube still doesn't work!
Please visit http://img.soaringrabbit.com/iphoneyoutube.html to read up on a solution for this.
12.How do I get my EDGE to work?
You will first need to contact your carrier to enable EDGE data on your phone plan. There are additional monthly fees for this service. Once you have enabled it, you will need to ask them for the EDGE settings. You can input these settings into your phone by going to Settings > General > Network > EDGE, and enter the settings provided to you.
13.My Phone & SMS (text) apps keep crashing. What should I do?
Simply open up the Installer app on your phone, navigate to the "Tweaks (1.1.2)" folder, then select and install the program called iWorld. Once you installed it, run it and everything should be fixed!
14.I received an "Unable to download firmware..." error.
To fix this, please upgrade to firmware 1.1.2, then downgrade again to firmware 1.1.1 and unlock your phone using SimFree version 1.8.
15.After restoring, I get an iTunes error & the iTunes logo/USB wire on my phone.
Please visit our tutorial by clicking here, and read the last paragraph on Step 1 for instructions on how to repair this.
16.When running the SimFree app, I get the error: "Main script failed to execute...".
This problem can be resolved by upgrading to firmware 1.1.2, then downgrading to firmware 1.1.1 and running the SimFree app again (version 1.8). |
