How to Unlock Your iPhone
Step-by-step instructions for unlocking your iPhone...
Introduction
Welcome! This tutorial includes information on how to unlock your 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 iPhones, then upgrade to 1.1.2. It is ONLY for old bootloader phones.

You can usually detect whether or not your phone has the new bootloader by looking at the serial number. If the week is 45 or later (week is the 4th & 5th digits in serial number), you will likely have the new bootloader. Also, phones that were pre-installed with 1.1.2 firmware out-of-the-box will likely have the new bootloader, making them incapable of being unlocked at this time.

If you indeed have the old bootloader, you may continue below.
Preparing Your Phone
1  To begin, dock your phone to your computer. You now need to upgrade your phone to 1.1.2 by selecting the "Update" button while holding either the Option key (for Mac) or the Shift key (for Windows), then select the 1.1.2 firmware file. If you do not have this file, it's available for download by clicking here.
2  Once the upgraded has completed, you should get a message like above. This means the process is complete and you're ready for the next step.
3  Next, put your phone in recovery mode. To do this, hold in the Sleep and Home buttons until the phone powers off, then release the Sleep button (top one). The iTunes logo and USB wire should appear on your phone's screen, and you should get a message like above in iTunes.
4  Once your phone's in recovery mode, and you have the Restore button available, hold down your Shift key (or Command key for Mac), then click the Restore button. When a file window opens, select the iPhone firmware 1.1.1 file, which is available for download by clicking here.
5  When your phone is done restoring, you should be presented with an error message like the one above. Close this message, then use either iBrickr (for Windows) or iNdependence (for Mac), and use the options in either program (depending on your operating system) to boot the phone normally.

Once your phone is on the activation screen, follow the instructions below to unlock your phone.
Unlocking Instructions
1  Starting at the activation screen, slide the "Slide for Emergency" slider, and dial *#307# and press Call. You should now receive a phone call from 1. Erase all the numbers in the dial pad, enter "0" and press Call. Answer the call, press Hold, and then Decline.
2  Next, tap "Contacts" at the bottom of the screen. Create a new contact (using any name you choose), and enter the following URLs:

prefs://1f
-and-
http://jailbreakme.com
3  Completely save the contact information, and select the first URL (prefs://1f). You should be taken to the Settings menu. Select WiFi and choose the WiFi network that you will use (must have Internet access). Once selected, press the Home button, slide the emergency bar, dial "0", and press Call. Again, answer the call, place it on hold, and decline.
4  Return to the contact you created. This time, select the second URL (http//jailbreakme.com). When the page opens, scroll to the bottom and select "Install AppSnapp". Let the process run until you are returned the screen asking you to Slide to Unlock (may take up to 5 minutes).

Note: If the process completes and Safari crashes, but you still have the Slide for Emergency screen, just wait a few minutes until the iPhone restarts itself.
5  Now that you have access to the springboard, you should see the Installer icon. Tap this icon, select "Sources" (on the bottom), tap "Edit", then "Add", and create a source for http://tinyurl.com/2qxpe6. Return to the "Install" tab, and select the iPhoneSimFree option, then install SimFree 1.8.
6  To complete the process, return to your springboard (home screen), and select SimFree, the follow the instructions on screen to unlock your phone.
Upgrading to 1.1.2
1  After you have unlocked your phone, you may upgrade to 1.1.2 (while maintaining an unlocked phone). To start, return to Installer from your springboard, select the category titled "Tweaks (1.1.1)", then install "OktoPrep".
2  Now you may upgrade your phone to 1.1.2 firmware. To do so, connect your iPhone to your computer, go into iTunes and select your phone, then select the "Upgrade" button while either holding the Option key (for Mac) or the Shift key (for Windows) at the same time. Once the file selection window appears, choose the 1.1.2 firmware file that you downloaded earlier (if you don't have it - click the previous link to download it again).
3  Once you have upgraded your phone, click here to download the jailbreak files. Once downloaded, unzip the files and choose the version for your operating system ("windows.bat" file is for Windows users and the "._jailbreak.jar" file in the "_MACOSX" folder for Mac users). Once the process is complete, continue to step 4 below.
4  You're done! Once the phone has been restarted twice (once by you, once automatically - as prompted), your phone should be jailbroken, activated, and Installer.app installed so that you may add all your applications back on.
International Phone Fix
Some international phones who are not in supported countries (where iPhones are sold by Apple) will need to install iWorld in order to prevent their iPhone from crashing. To do this, open Installer, navigate to the category titled "Tweaks (1.1.2)", then install iWorld. Once installed, run iWorld, select your country, and tap "Use This Country".

After you have received the success message, your phone will reboot, applying the new settings. After the reboot, you may uninstall iWorld via Installer.
